How To Create a FREE Avatar for Blogs and Web Forums

Simple Visual Instructions to Make Your Own Avatar Online.

Avatar: An image that appears next to your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog or in a forum. The most popular free Avatar service to get your personal Avatar on the internet is www.Gravatar.com The most popular blog plugin is WordPress and your Avatar can show up when you make comments on anyones blog.

Create an Avatar step (1):

Visit www.Gravatar.com to set up a free account.

Create an Avatar step (2):

Click on the drop down menu and click [Sign Up].

Enter your email to associate with your Avatar. Now whenever you sign up for a blog or forum with the same email address your Avatar will automatically be posted along side your mesages.

Click the [Signup] button.

An email will be sent to your email address with a confirmation link in the message.

Create an Avatar step (6):

Click on the confirmation link to confirm that you and your email are real.

Create an Avatar step (7):

Create a Gravatar username and click the [check] button to see if your user name is available. I used my own name but it was not available as seen here so I decided to add the number 1 after my name and it was available.

Create your account password and type it in twice. NOTE: remember to record your password. Click the [Signup] button.

Time to select an image for your Avatar. Click on [Add one by clicking here!]

Select where your picture is. In my case I have all my Avatars and head shots in one folder on my computer’s hard drive so I’ll select [My computer's hard drive].

Click on the [Choose File] button. A window will popup on your screen. Now select the appropriate Avatar image file on your computer.

My Avatar image was successfully uploaded as noted next to the [Choose File] button. Now click the [Next] button.

If you need to crop your Avatar image you can do that now. When done click on the [Crop and Finish!] button.

Choose a rating for your image. Since my image is my face (may be it’s not the best looking face.. LOL) but I think it will pass for the G rating. Click on the appropriate rating for your picture.

You can add more images now if you feel like changing your Avatar image once in a while. Click on the [add a new image] to add more pictures.

To change your Avatar to another picture simply select it and then click on the [Confirm] button.

Also you may want to edit your public profile (see mine here James Martinez avatar) by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting [Edit My Profile].

Enter your name and a short bio. Some information is not shown on your profile but is made public (see my Gravatar profile here James Martinez ). Your profile may rank on Google if you create enough anchor text all over the internet like I have done in the previous sentence. The way I see it the more 1st page Google rankings for my content and websites the better. Click the [Save Profile] button when complete.

Create an Avatar step (19):

Click on your username at the top of the screen or [View My Profile] to see your profile.

Congratulation your Avatar is now activated. Now enter a comment below to see your avatar on my blog and so I can see who my beautiful and handsome readers are.
